  • Make it spicy! Blend in half of a jalapeno pepper, chopped and deseeded, with the rest of the ingredients. Garnish with spicy salt on the rim.
  • On the rocks! If youd like a non-blended version of this, substitute 3 ounces of mango puree or juice for the frozen mango. Shake that along with 2 ounces Blanco tequila, 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice from about 1 lime, 1/2 ounce orange liqueur, 1/2 ounce orange juice, and 1/2 ounce simple syrup . If you use a mango nectar, which is usually sweetened, you may not need any simple syrup, so taste first and decide from there. To serve, strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass.
  • Get fancy with garnishes! Kosher salt is a standard ingredient for rimming your glass, but here you can swap that out with sugar crystals, or use Tajín chili pepper seasoning either on its own or mixed in with salt. Lime wheels, orange slices, and mango chunks all also work for garnishes.

Ingredients You Need To Make This Mango Tequila Cocktail

  • Tequila: I recommend using a 100% agave Blanco or Silver tequila for this margarita. You can use a more expensive type of tequila, such as Reposado or Anejo however, I dont recommend using a gold tequila. Gold tequilas, also known as join tequilas, are a blend of different tequilas, which can include additives and give you a killer hangover.
  • Mango: You will need half a ripe mango to make the margarita puree.
  • Pineapple Juice: Pineapple and mango are a match made in tropical heaven! Pineapple juice adds a touch of sweet, acidic flavor and helps thin out the mango margarita puree.
  • Lime Juice: Fresh lime juice adds a bit of acidity. Make sure you purchase limes and squeeze them yourself for the best flavor!
  • Triple Sec: You can use your favorite orange liqueur here or use whatever is in your budget. I tend to use either regular Triple Sec or Cointreau. Triple sec is a generic orange liqueur, while Cointreau is a type of triple sec with a smoother and more complex flavor.
  • Jalapeños: Fresh jalapeños add the perfect amount of earthy heat!
  • Agave: While totally optional, a touch of agave adds a hint of sweetness to balance out the fruity, acidic flavors.
  • Grenadine: Non-alcoholic grenadine syrup adds a pop of beautiful red color and a touch of tart and sweet flavor!
  • Rim: A combination of coarse salt and chili powder along with a dash of granulated sugar make the perfect blend to rim your cocktail glass!

How To Make The Best Frozen Margaritas

Youll be surprised how easy and quick it is to make a blended margarita.

  • Salt the rim of your glasses you dont have to, but the salt + chili powder enhances the sweetness of the mango and adds a mild, spicy contrast. It also gives your glass that classic margarita look. To rim your glass, run a lime wedge around the upper outer rim, then dip the rim in a chili powder/salt mixture and twist to coat.
  • Blend add frozen mangoes, freshly squeezed lime juice, tequila, triple sec, and a touch of agave syrup into a blender, and blend until smooth.
  • Taste and adjust taste it, and tweak the ratios until your margarita has a balance of flavors you love. If you prefer a stronger margarita, add more tequila. If you want it sweeter, add an extra drop of agave or simple syrup.
  • Pour and serve pour it into the prepared glasses, garnish with limes wedges and a sprig of fresh mint, and serve immediately.

You can rim your glasses with Tajin, a Mexican seasoning blend of chili peppers, lime, and sea salt. Find it in the seasoning aisle or with Mexican ingredients at your local grocery store.

How To Make A Mango Margarita

To make this mango margarita just score and scoop out the flesh of the mango. If youve never done this before, you can watch me do it on the video for my White Sangria with Mango and Berries recipe. After that, juice the oranges and limes and throw it all in a blender with the alcohol. Voila. Boozy mango margarita mix.

If you want to get fancy, you can put this in a cocktail shaker with a cup of ice, give it a good shake and then pour into a salt rimmed glass. I dont own a cocktail shaker so I just poured the mango margarita mix on top of a cup full of ice and gave it a good stir. Super easy.

  • Sweetener: Always make your cocktails to taste! This means you should prepare the margarita mix, taste and then adjust it. If your mango is ripe, you may not need to add any agave to your spicy margarita mix at all! However, if your mango isnt ripe and you prefer a sweet margarita, you may need to add an ounce or two of agave .
  • Spice level: If you like your margarita fiery hot, leave the ribs and the seeds in your jalapeño when muddling and use four slices of jalapeño. For a milder margarita, remove the ribs and seeds and start with just one slice of jalapeño.
  • Serving a crowd: You can easily batch this recipe for a crowd! Simply multiply the recipe by the number of drinks and pour everything into a large pitcher!
  • Making margaritas ahead: You can even make these margaritas ahead of time and keep the pitcher in the refrigerator for a few hours. Wait to add the ice to the pitcher until just before serving. Mango Margarita Recipe Tips

    • Thawing is your friend. When you first blend the margarita together, it will be thick, almost like a sorbet. If at any point you find that it is too thick to blend, dont worry about it! Just walk away for a few minutes to allow the mango to defrost, and then come back and try again. The mixture will blend more easily as it thaws, and even if you let it sit for a bit, itll still be nice and frosty.
    • Taste and adjust. The secret to making a killer cocktail at home? Adjusting it to taste! If you prefer a stronger mango margarita, add a splash more tequila. If you want it brighter, squeeze in extra lime. Craving something sweeter? Add a drop of agave or simple syrup. Tweak the ratios until your margarita has a balance of flavors you love.
    • Salt the rim of your glass. This frozen mango margarita tastes amazing straight out of the blender, so technically, you dont have to salt your glass here. Still, I highly recommend it. The salt perfectly accents the sweet, vibrant flavor of the mango and lime, and it gives your glass that classic margarita look.

Juicing the limes & making mango puree

Much like my skinny margarita recipe, I recommend about 2 limes per drink. So if you know youre going to be making several margaritas for your Cinco de Mayo party or your Super Bowl watch party, calculate your limes accordingly.

I will often buy a bag or two of limes at Costco if I know Im going to be making margaritas for a crowd. This is usually the most economical way to go.

Making the Mango Puree for this Mango Margarita recipe:

As far as mango is concerned, make sure you select a ripe mango. It should be slightly soft to the touch.

Peel the mango, and then add the sweet, yellow flesh to your blender. Puree for a few seconds until you have a smooth puree.

If youre having a party, you can do this ahead of time, before your guests arrive. Keep the mango puree refrigerated until ready to mix the mango margaritas.
