Dr. Travis Stork’s known for hosting The Doctors, a health-focused daytime talk show, but these days, it’s his latest book that’s getting all the attention. In December, he released The Lose Your Belly Diet, a book that aims to help people lose weight by focusing on the bacteria in your gut.

Though it’s been months since its debut, the book continually spikes on Amazon’s Movers and Shakers list its roundup of the top-selling products across the site and it’s currently listed as the No. 1 bestseller in the Diet Books category. Naturally, this begs the question: What’s all the hype about? Aside from the famous author and the fact that the title suggests fixing a problem just about every human struggles with . Is it all just marketing hype?

While it is cleverly marketed, what sets the diet apart from many out there is its focus on microbiomes those tiny organisms that live in our bodies, particularly our stomachs. Having a healthy mix of bacteria in your gut can keep you healthy, lowering your chance for various diseases and help keep your weight in check, according to Dr. Stork.

Dr Travis’ Recipes That Blast Belly Fat But Not Your Budget

ER physician Dr. Travis Stork shares family-friendly recipes that are healthy and budget-friendly from his the new bonus chapter of his book, “The Lose Your Belly Diet.”

He says these dishes are meant to be both affordable and easy to prepare. To save some money, he recommends using canned foods. Dr. Travis also says that cooking freezer-friendly dishes in bulk can also help cut down on costs and future prep time.

A Full Day Of Lose Your Belly Diet Recipes

Breakfast

  • 1 apple, chopped, with skin on
  • Spoon cottage cheese into a bowl.
  • Top with apple, cinnamon, and walnuts.
  • Lunch

    • 4 oz. cooked chicken meat, chopped
    • ½ cup cooked white beans, drained
    • ¼ cup celery, diced
    • 1 tablespoon red onion, chopped
    • ½ small avocado, cubed
    • 2 tablespoons Lemony Dill Dressing

    Instructions

  • Place salad greens on a plate. Top with white beans, chicken, celery, red onion, and avocado.
  • Drizzle with dressing.
  • 1 cup plain yogurt, plain kefir, or plain drinkable yogurt2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice½ teaspoon freshly grated lemon rind1 tablespoon fresh dill, finely chopped, or more to tasteSalt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

    Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients. Add water if needed to thin to desired consistency.
  • Snack

    • 2 cups canned chickpeas, drained
    • ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • Fresh parsley, chopped

    Instructions

  • Put everything but the parsley in a food processor and process until smooth. Sprinkle with parsley before serving.
  • Dinner

    Lentils with Barley and Spicy Tomato Sauce

    Ingredients

    • 1 pound fresh, ripe tomatoes, chopped
    • 1 cup tomato sauce
    • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
    • 2 cups cooked or canned and drained lentils
    • 2 cupped cooked pearl barley

    Instructions

  • In a large saucepan, sauté garlic and onion in olive oil until soft. Add in oregano, basil, tomatoes, tomato sauce, and crushed red pepper.

    South-of-the-Border Chow-Chow

    Ingredients

    • 4 cups vegetables, diced into 1/2 inch pieces
    • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
    • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
    • 1/8 teaspoon salt
    • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped
    • 1 tablespoon fresh oregano, chopped
    • Dash chili powder
    • Optional: dash of hot sauce

    Instructions

  • Place all ingredients in a large bowl. Toss well. Cover and store in the refrigerator.
  • Loaded Veggie Burger With Sauerkraut

    Ingredients

    • 1 veggie burger
    • Bubbies sauerkraut
    • Whole grain bread

    Instructions
