    Is Hershey’s Syrup Real Chocolate

Before we jump into this homemade chocolate syrup recipe, let’s talk about Hershey’s syrup first.

There are a few versions of Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup, one of which only contains 5 simple ingredients and doesn’t contain high fructose corn syrup.

I’ve yet to come across their “Simply 5” chocolate syrup, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

However, the more common Hershey’s syrup that you’ll find contains high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, water, cocoa, and sugar.

I wouldn’t consider it real chocolate, but instead would call it a chocolate-flavored syrup.

However, I gotta admit that they definitely did well in the taste department!

Do I Have To Caramelize The Dairy Mixture

    Homemade Hersheys Chocolate Syrup Recipe

Taking the time to caramelize the sugar/dairy mixture adds an extra layer of flavor and yields a fudge sauce with a chewy texture.

No, you dont. But if you dont take the 20-30 minutes to cook the dairy until it has caramelized, you will not have made the best hot fudge sauce in the world.

You will have made a very good one, but it wont be the best.

Caramelizing the sugar/dairy does a couple of things:

    • It evaporates out some of the water, concentrating the flavor and allowing for a thicker sauce and that old-fashioned chewy texture that is so incredibly addictive.
    • The caramelized sugar and milk solids lend a deep, complex base flavor that you would not get if you dont take this step.

If you have ever heated chocolate directly in a pan, you may have had an experience with scorching chocolate. This can be heartbreaking! One minute you are on your way to smooth, velvety bliss, the next you have a thick, lumpy mess!

The great thing about this recipe, is that the chocolate will actually melt due to the hot cream that its sitting in, so it doesnt scorch! .

If you have ever made chocolate ganache , you may know that you heat the cream until almost boiling. Next you pour your cream over the chocolate in a bowl, and then place a lid or plate over it for about 5 minutes.

What happens next is almost miraculous! Once you remove the plate, you will begin to whisk the chocolate together with the cream. At first, your heart might sink because it appears that the chocolate will not incorporate well, and then suddenly, the chocolate ganache becomes smooth, velvety & PERFECT!

You can use the same method to make this hot fudge sauce recipe if you want, or you can put the cream & chocolate in the microwave in 30 second increments! Either way, youll come out with this beautiful, rich, delicious sauce that you might just want to drink!!!

    Candy Cane Kiss Brownies

I know plenty of people who love candy canes and plenty of people who avoid them.

Theyre pretty hard and stick to your teeth, which is why I love Hershey Candy Cane Kisses.

Youll get the same minty flavor without needing to floss, not to mention the added creaminess!

If you dont want to use shortening for the frosting, try using coconut oil instead.

I would add half the amount and check the consistency before adding in the rest.

Mix It Up Here Are A Few Chocolate Syrup Variations To Try:

    • Add A Tablespoon Of Butter. My favorite variation is to thicken this chocolate syrup up a bit with a pat of butter. The addition of a little fat adds a velvety smooth texture and makes for a slightly thicker texture thats lovely.
    • Add Mint or Coconut Flavor. Add a few drops of peppermint extract or coconut extract along with vanilla to add an extra burst of flavor. Peppermint is glorious around the holidays, and coconut pairs beautifully with a yummy brownie sundae or coconut ice cream.
    • Use Milk Instead Of Water. Similarly, you can add a tiny bit of richness by using milk instead of water. Any percentage or variety of milk will add richness compared to water, but the higher the fat content, the thicker and richer your sauce will be.

    Make Ahead And Freezing Instructions:

How Do You Make Chocolate Syrup

Okay, so letâs get to the practical details now. Chocolate syrup is so easy to make you guys. Basically you mix together some sugar and cocoa powder and add hot water a little at a time until a syrup forms. Itâs that easy! Then you simply store it in the fridge and mix it into your favorite milk to make delicious and refreshing chocolate milk whenever you want!

    The Perfect Hot Fudge Recipe

Growing up all I knew was Hersheys syrup. Now, I love chocolate, but chocolate syrup is TOO SWEET! And even store bought hot fudge sauce is a step up, but still isnt great. But this hot fudge recipe is perfect because it is rich, and not overly sweet . However, if you prefer it a little sweeter, you can always add more sugar while your sauce is still hot.

The original recipe calls for 1/4 cup of sugar, but since most dessert are usually pretty sweet on their own, I dont think it needs any more sugar.

I also use dark chocolate chips. You can use semi-sweet or bittersweet if you prefer. The original recipe calls for good quality chocolate cut into small pieces. In my area, its difficult to come by anything more than Toll House, so that is what I use most of the time, and the sauce comes out perfect!

Is there a difference in chocolate syrup and chocolate sauce?

Yes and no, I use the terms interchangeably but technically, syrup is thinner and made with cocoa powder, sugar and water. Chocolate sauce is thicker and made from sugar, cream and melted chocolate. You could however make this a sauce by swapping out ½ of the water for ½ cup Heavy Cream. It must be heavy cream though otherwise your sauce will break.

    Will this harden?

No, this is a syrup or sauce, but not a magic shell. Chef in Training has a greatMagic Shell Recipe you could check out if thats what youre looking for.

How do I store this simple sauce?

I find the easiest way to store this syrup is in a glass mason jar. You can pour it in the jar hot without worry of the jar melting or breaking. You can easily reheat it in the microwave in the jar. This syrup should be stored in the fridge which the jar also fits in the fridge better I think.

What ice creams can I serve this on?

This homemade chocolate syrup recipe is great to have on hand during the summer months when you want to make a quick and delicious glass of chocolate milk!

In case you didnt know, Kuala Lumpur is hot. As in, its summer all year round. Ive worn pants one time since we moved here and Im constantly wearing workout clothes because of how quickly I break a sweat. Not only is the heat affecting my wardrobe, its also affecting my diet.

Ive found myself drawn towards eating more salads, overnight oats and iced beverages. While I still love a cup of hot tea when Im in my house and the A/C is blowing on me, I always order a cold drink whenever Im out and about. Things like cold brew coffee or iced tea.

I wanted to switch things up one day and decided on making some iced chocolate or chocolate milkwhichever name you prefer!

I dont know about you, but I definitely remember the days of squeezing way too much Hersheys Chocolate Syrup into my milk growing up. Well, I guess it was way too much for my mom, but I loved it! The more chocolate the better for this chocolate addict.

But what even is Hersheys Chocolate Syrup? Is it real chocolate?

How To Make Homemade Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup

Have you seen the price of Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup lately? At my two favorite grocery stores, the price was over $5 for a 24-ounce bottle!

While I was trying to decide if I really needed to add the Hershey’s Syrup to my cart, I took a minute to flip over the bottle and read the ingredients: high fructose corn syrup, salt, monoglycerides, diglycerides, polysorbate 60, artificial flavors

Yes, cocoa and water were also included, but I decided I shouldn’t spend $5 to buy all those chemicals.

Haiden and Piper like to have chocolate milk with their vitamins at breakfast, and I wanted an easy way to keep giving it to them. Plus my husband enjoys a little chocolate syrup on his ice cream, and it’s an easy way to dress up a dessert.

In other words, I wasn’t giving up our chocolate syrup. It was just time to learn how to make homemade chocolate syrup for myself!
