Why Homemade Instead Of Purchased Dog Food

Myths and misconceptions abound on the Internet regarding homemade dog food. Also, there are a myriad of conflicting nutritional recommendations ranging from the 30-70% carbs found in commercial dog food to raw frozen foods that contains no carbs. Some owners feed raw meat and bones and say their dogs thrive.

However, many raw materials that are unfit for humans are legal for dog food. These may include spoiled supermarket food, slaughter house waste such as organs, heads, hooves, beaks, feet and other appalling ingredients. Ingredients often have vague names such as animal by-product meal and meat by-product meal. Read the article, The Shocking Truth About Commercial Dog Food by Dog Food Advisor. It will convince you that making homemade food is a safer alternative to much of the commercial food.

Before commercial dog food, dogs ate table scraps real food. During the Great Depression dog food companies marketed their products as an economical alternative. To boost their market, dog food companies advertised that their food was required for good health. Table scraps and real food suddenly became harmful. Pet food companies stepped up the onslaught and began using veterinarians to endorse their products.

When We Do And Dont Treat Our Dogs

We dont give them many treats, because Im neurotic about making them fat. That is never a word that I would use to discuss anyone else in my house, for better or for worse.

I grew up with an unhealthy relationship with food and I have two daughters who are perfect whatever their bodies look like. Fat is not a word we like to use at all. But my veterinarian tells me what my dogs healthy weights should be, and I consider it my responsibility to keep them healthy.

My husbands new office is dog-friendly, so hes been bringing the dogs to work one at a time. They take the commuter train, sleep on a very fluffy bed his coworker bought for them, and they get some treats. Theyre in heaven.

If my dogs are going to get treats, Id much rather know exactly what is in them and make sure theyre all healthy ingredients. No binders, no additives, no colors. Just pumpkin, peanut butter, eggs, and bean flour.

Plus, they get really excited when they can smell that their homemade goodies are baking in the oven. And I think that these homemade dog treats make a great host gift for the holidays when your host has a dog. I challenge you to find a cheaper, higher impact, lower cost gift! ?

I make gluten free treats specifically because my whole house is gluten free, and so are my dogs. They lick us all, including my gluten free son, and I never wanted to hinder my sons relationship with his pets.

Useful Tips For A Quality Life With Kidney Disease

Provide your dog with clear and filtered water, and be sure it does not contain any toxins. Water from your tap is not always chemically correct.

A kidney diet often requires a lot of water because your dog is often thirsty. It is recommended to purchase a slow water feeder. You can find this in your local pet shop or online.

It is recommended to feed your dog with his homemade diet in several smaller portions during the day. Combine this with a lot of exercise to get the best results in kidney function.

Do not forget to include supplements in pet food kibble. A Prescription diet for kidney failure does not cover all the nutritional needs of a dog. No matter how much of a high-quality, homemade meal you make, your doggo still needs a few more vitamins and minerals.

Senior dogs with kidney failure need meat that contains a lot of fat. Their kidney diet should be a low protein diet. This means you should use ground meat with less protein and more fat.

If you are often short on time, it is good to prepare meals in advance. Make bigger amounts of food, and separate it into portions. Put the portions in the freezer, and take them out when you need them.

Invest in a kitchen scale. This is an essential thing for cooking homemade recipes. There are a lot of choices online, on sites such as Amazon, along with going to your local supermarket.
