    Tips For Recipe Success

    Strawberry Margarita

Here are a few quick tips for making these margaritas perfect every single time:

    • High-quality liquor. Dont feel like you have to buy the most expensive brand of tequila, but keep in mind that the quality will dictate the flavor of your margarita, so go with something that you like. Our go-to brand of tequila is Espolòn tequila, but feel free to use your favorite.
    • Fine mesh sieve. Once the strawberries have basically turned into juice, you are going to pour the strawberries through a sieve into a glass storage container. You want to use a VERY fine sieve, so that you end up with smooth strawberry juice with no seeds or clumps.
    • Making strawberry simple syrup. Its best to make the strawberry syrup in advance and store it in the refrigerator, so its nice and chilled when you need it. The syrup can be kept in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, if stored in an air tight container. Its great served over ice cream, pancakes, or use it to make strawberry milk.
    • Cocktail shaker alternative. A cocktail shaker definitely works best to mix the drink ingredients, but if you dont have one, any jar with a lid and strainer will get the job done.

How To Make A Margarita With Strawberries

Making margaritas at home is super easy, but it does require a few simple steps! Heres a quick rundown of the process, but reference the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full, printable recipe.

  • Make the strawberry simple syrup. Bring a simple mix of strawberries, sugar and water to a boil and then lower heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Pour mixture through a fine mesh sieve and into a glass storage container. Once the strawberry syrup has cooled some, store it in the fridge until youre ready to use it. You can use it at room temperature, but its best if it has time to chill.
  • Rim your glass. Adding salt and sugar to the rim of the glass is optional, but I really love the addition. Add about 3 tablespoons of coarse salt and 2 teaspoons of sugar onto a plate. Rub the rim of the glass with a lime wedge. Then, dip the rim into the salt and sugar . Fill the glass with ice.
  • Mix ingredients. In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, Grand Marnier, strawberry syrup and lime juice with ice, and shake for about 30 seconds.
  • Serve and enjoy. Pour your strawberry margarita into glasses over ice. Garnish with fresh lime slices and strawberries and drink up!
  • What’s The Difference Between A Strawberry Margarita And Daiquiri

The main difference between strawberry margaritas and daiquiris is the base liquor: Margaritas use tequila and daiquiris require rum. Additionally, frozen strawberry daiquiri recipes typically use simple syrup while margaritas prefer triple sec. Either ingredient can act as the sweetener in both cocktails.

How To Make A Shaken Strawberry Margarita

Use the same ingredients for a shaken strawberry margarita: Muddle the strawberries to create a thick slurry, add the liquors and lime juice, and fill the cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and strain it into your glass.

    • Or skip the berries and pour a strawberry liqueur instead. Start with 2 ounces to see if it’s fruity enough for your taste and make adjustments when you shake up the next round.
    • You can use a homemade strawberry syrup instead of a liqueur or use the syrup in a fruit liqueur recipe to create your own strawberry liqueur.

What Tequila Is Best For Margaritas

Silver or blanco tequila is usually used to make margaritas. Gold tequilas, which have been aged longer in oak barrels, are not recommended. You also want to choose a mid-range tequila or higher for your margarita. Top-shelf liquor isnt usually necessary unless you want to be fancy, but the cheapest tequila wont taste great. Beyond that, the best tequila for your margarita is the one you love most!

    Why This Recipe Works

    • Using frozen strawberries in place of some of the ice prevents the flavors from being watered down and keeps it extra rich and tasty.
    • The citrus notes in the frozen strawberry make triple sec unnecessary in this margarita.
    • Using fresh lime juice and agave nectar makes this margarita healthier than using frozen limeade concentrate which typically includes high fructose corn syrup as the first ingredient.

    Frozen Margarita Pie

A common problem with Margaritas is way too much sugar. This Frozen Strawberry Margarita recipe calls for 4 to 6 ounces of thawed frozen lime concentrate. Be sure to stir the thawed lime concentrate before you measure it out. When you start blending, use 4 ounces and then taste to see if the mixture is right for you. Remember you can always add more, but it is much more difficult to dial it back. If the sweetness factor goes too far, individual drinks can also be modified with an extra squeeze or two of fresh lime.

I like to use frozen fruits in blended drinks to cut down on the need for ice. Ice causes water melt which in turn waters down the drink. Frozen fruits add extra flavor boost to the drink without watering it down. You can always flash freeze fresh fruit for later use rather than purchasing processed frozen fruit.

Sometimes it is best to place frozen berries in the blender first and then pour spirits over the frozen items. This starts a little melting process on the frozen berries to help give the blender a jump start so to speak.

    • 3 ½ cups Strawberry Simple Syrup
    • 1 cup of tequila
    • ½ cup of orange liqueur

Just pour it all in a pitcher, refrigerate until cold, and pour over ice to serve!

    Tequila And Orange Liqueur

Youll want to begin by choosing a good Blanco tequila for their true agave flavor. Im using Reposado tequila, but feel free to use whichever you like.

As for orange liqueurs, I love Cointreau for its mix of sweet and bitter oranges. Other common brands to use are Curaçao and Grand Marnier. For a more detailed breakdown between all these liquors, take a peek at my classic margarita recipe.

    • Sugar or Salt for the Rim We prefer a sugar rim for a strawberry margarita but salt works too!

You can add a dash of soda water over the top of the cocktail if you prefer.

First make the simple syrup. In a small saucepan combine equal parts sugar and water and 5 fresh strawberries sliced.

Bring to a boil, then let simmer for about 5 minutes. Muddle the strawberries the sugar mixture once theyre tender. Dont boil or cook too long or the mixture will be thick, making the margarita texture too thick.

Then, strain through a mesh strainer into a heatproof jar or container. Muddle the strawberries in the mesh strainer to get the flavor out.

Next, in a cocktail shaker muddle two fresh strawberries in the bottom. Then add in tequila, lime juice, strawberry simple syrup, cointreau and a handful of ice.

Shake vigorously for 30 seconds to dilute the ingredients and get the ingredients nice and cold.

  • Wet the Rim | Take the lime wedge and run the slit around the rim of the glass.
