Combine the following and sprinkle over your casserole before baking.

  • 3/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon parsley

This recipe makes an extra saucy creamy macaroni. Do not over-bake this recipe. You want it creamy and rich, over-baking will cause it to dry out. I find that 20 minutes is perfect in my oven, the cheese sauce will thicken slightly while standing.

Variations Of Crock Pot Mac And Cheese

  • Pasta Shapes to mimic the classic recipe, I normally use elbow pasta. But any short-cut pasta works just as well! Medium shells, penne, rotini, etc. Just note that different pastas will have slightly different cook times, so use the recipe times as an approximate.
  • Cooking Liquids like I mentioned above, I prefer the taste and consistency of chicken broth, evaporated milk and heavy cream. However, feel free to test out different proportions of those liquids, or try out different liquids. Just note that I can only vouch for this recipe as written.
  • Cheeses As with most mac and cheese recipes, the types of cheese called for are not the only ones you can use. Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, Colby, Gruyere, sharp cheddar any and all!
  • Seasonings feel free to add in additional seasonings that you love in your mac and cheese.

How To Make Crock Pot Mac And Cheese

  • Add pasta and liquids to the slow cooker. Sprinkle in seasonings and stir.
  • Cover and cook 1 hour. Stir. Cover and cook another 10 minutes.
  • Stir in cream cheese and grated cheese. Cover and let sit for 5-10 minutes. Stir and serve.

How easy is that?! No fancy cream sauce to make just hands-off cook time so you can go relax!

  • Pasta: We use the classic elbow pasta but any other short pasta shape can be used.
  • Flour: We use all-purpose flour to create a roux that will thickened the cheesy sauce.
  • Butter: We usually use unsalted butter but salted butter works as well. Cut it into smaller pieces so it melts quickly and evenly.
  • Milk and half and half: The combination of whole milk and half and half creates a velvety rich homemade cheese sauce. For a more decadent and richer sauce, use a combination of heavy cream and half and half. You can use 2% milk instead of whole milk for a lighter sauce.Seasonings: Salt, ground black pepper, nutmeg, garlic powder and dried mustard aka mustard powder. If you want to add some spicy heat, cayenne pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce can be added.
  • Cheese: We use a combination of cheeses to make the decadent cheesy sauce. Sharp cheddar cheese, Gruyere cheese and white cheddar cheese. You can use your favorite cheese or a combination of 2-3 type of cheese. Its best to shred your own cheese at home but if you have to use pre-shredded cheese, thats Ok.
  • Mac n cheese topping: Panko bread crumbs, melted butter and seasoned salt.

A combination of Gruyere and mozzarella cheese. Gruyerefor the most superior flavour with the best melting qualities for creamy sauces such as this theres no contention in my view. And mozzarella for stretch nothing does the cheese pull like a good mozzarella!

But honestly, any cheese that melts well works is excellent with Mac and Cheese, such as cheddar, tasty, Colby, Swiss, Pepper Jack, Emmental.

How To Make Old

1. Cook the pasta.

I like to cook elbow macaroni for only 4-5 minutes because it will continue to cook in the oven.

If you cook the pasta until its ready to eat, it will likely turn mushy in the oven.

2. Grease the dish.

This part is important! The pasta will stick to the bottom of the dish if you dont.

3. Combine the cooked macaroni, butter, cheese, salt, and pepper.

Add the ingredients directly to the dish for easy clean-up just be sure you have a tall-sided dish, so nothing spills out.

4. Whisk together the milk and eggs.

This mixture serves as the base of the sauce. When baked along with grated cheese, they turn into a thick and creamy mixture, kind of like savory custard.

Pour the mixture over the macaroni.

5. Bake the dish.

It will need around 40 to 50 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

6. Add more cheese!

This step is optional, but I like to add extra cheese and broil the dish for about 3-5 minutes.

7. Serve and enjoy!

Let the dish sit for a few minutes before serving.

Now its time for seasoning! Add about 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt If youre sensitive to salt, start really low and work your way upand remember that the cheese imparts quite a bit of salt to the mix.

I use a total of 5 different cheeses in this recipe. Feel free to use your favorites. I add in half of the cheese while the mac and cheese is cooking over the burner. Then, I sprinkle on the rest over the top in the casserole dish.

Look at that crisp cheese pull! The topping is not too crunchy, its just right! The perfect coverage for that creamy, cheesy stuff underneath. If you like a brown, almost burnt, looking topping, just leave it in the oven until it reaches the desired look.

I have to warn you. One spoon of this is at least 3,000 calories. So, I recommend eating it at the gym.
