Why Should You Cold Brew Your Coffee

BEST AT HOME ICED COFFEE | BEST ICED COFFEE

This coffee-making method has a few things going for it:

  • The slow infusion pulls all the great coffee flavor from the beans .
  • But it also leaves behind most of the compounds that can make coffee taste bitter and sour.
  • This means that cold brewed coffee is incredibly smooth and almost sweet-tasting. Perfect for iced coffee.

You can also adjust the concentration of your cold brew coffee, making it stronger or less strong to suit your taste. Start with one cup of beans steeped in four cups of water. This will make a fairly concentrated coffee on its own, but it’s perfect for pouring over ice or mixing with milk – or both. If that ratio of beans to water isn’t quite to your taste, adjust it up or down until you hit the perfect balance for you.

I also really love that this method for making coffee actually saves me time in the morning. I make a big batch over the weekend, starting it on Saturday or Sunday night and straining it the next morning, and then stash it in the fridge for an easy coffee fix all week long.

How To Steam Milk With An Espresso Machine

The tool you need to steam milk? An espresso machine with a steamer! This makes the best foam for a cappuccino, and steaming milk also adds a sweet creaminess to the flavor. You dont have to worry about the technique of microfoam like for the perfect latte, but its still nice to have an espresso machine for this coffee drink.

The downside? Espresso machines can be pricey. Heres the espresso machine we use: its middle of the road price-wise and works great. But you can also make a cappuccino by simply frothing milk with a whisk: see below! Heres how to steam milk for a cappuccino:

  • Hold the steaming wand just below the surface of the milk until it doubles in size and is very foamy.
  • Lower the steaming wand slightly until the milk reaches 150 degrees Fahrenheit: use a thermometer or judge by when your hand cant hold the pitcher for more than a few seconds.

Making The Iced Vanilla Latte

Vanilla lattes are so easy to make and you dont need to splurge on an expensive vanilla bean to get good flavour with this syrup. Like the rest of the syrups here, the formula is pretty straightforward. Make a plain simple syrup by mixing boiling water and sugar together, then add in your flavouring of choice.

For this vanilla latte, I used plain old artificial vanilla extract but you could use the more expensive pure extract or opt for the vanilla bean if you can find them. But really, the vanilla latte is the easiest of all to make. Like the machiatto, start with an empty cup full of ice. Brew two espresso shots and pour them over the ice, then stir in 1 cup of milk and add vanilla syrup to your taste. Yum!

What Type Of Coffee Should I Use

Like any cup of joe, you should choose high-quality coffee beans to make the coffee for your iced coffee recipe. I swear this is not a plug for Lavazza but I love their dark roast coffee. You can buy the beans on their own and grind them using a coffee grinder at home, or you can buy pre-ground coffee your local grocery store. It’s up to you!

I will often try to go to my fave local cafes as well and buy their house blends, or pick up some coffee from Starbucks. That way you get the same taste of your favorite coffee place without having to spend $5 per drink!

How To Make Moroccan Coffee

The Best Cold Brew Coffee At Home

If you like warm spices, this drink is a must-try. Its hot, intense, and loaded with everything from cinnamon to black pepper.

Though there is no set rule for what spices to include here, youll find its typically a variation of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, black peppercorns, cardamom, and clove.

Since this is a drink for a special occasion, its best made with a cafetière if you have one.

That will allow the freshly ground spices to blend with the coffee better.

Of course, you could add the spices into your filter with the coffee, too. It just wont be as deeply flavored.

Another option is to use a teapot and let the coffee sit with the spices for at least 5 minutes.

After that, youll just need to have a filter handy when serving.

White chocolate mocha is an extra-rich and creamy, super sweet, and sinful drink that you just have to make the minute it gets cold.

Youll start by heating up the milk and adding good-quality chocolate.

If you try to use something cheap, it probably wont melt quite right or leave you with the same luscious flavor.

Pour this over freshly brewed coffee and serve with plenty of whipped cream.

The Best Milk For A Cappuccino

Whats the best milk to use for a cappuccino? Heres what to know:

  • Use milk thats as fresh as possible! Milk thats nearing its expiration date does not foam as well. Trust us: we learned that the hard way!
  • The best milk for a cappuccino? Whole milk. Whole milk froths the best because it has the highest milk fat.
  • You can also use 2% milk. It works fairly well, but you lose a bit of the richness.
  • Use oat milk for a vegan cappuccino. The best non-dairy milk to use is oat milk: it froths up the best and has great flavor. Go to How to Froth Milk for more details.

First Youll Need Espresso

Youll need to make espresso for a cappuccino: simply strong coffee will not do! This means youll need the following:

  • Espresso roast coffee: The roast is important to get the right dark, bitter flavor. Also make sure to use a fine grind on the espresso when you make it.
  • Espresso machine, manual espresso maker, or Aeropress: There are several ways to make espresso. We use an espresso machine, which sits on a countertop. Or you can use a small manual espresso maker: its cheaper and portable! The cheapest option is an Aeropress: it doesnt make nearly as good of espresso, but it does the job. Go to Aeropress Espresso.

How To Make Cold Brew Coffee

Making cold brew could technically be as simple as making a pot of coffee and letting it go cold. But I find that makes it taste a little stale.

Cold brew, as you mightve guessed, is coffee without any heat. This leaves the final drink with a smoother and less acidic finish.

And its so easy to make at home, too! Just pour filtered water over coarsely ground coffee beans and let it sit for 12-24 hours.

Then, strain and serve however you like.

Every once in a while, I like to indulge in something super sweet and decadent.

And I dont know anything more decadent than Starbucks frappuccinos.

One ingredient you may find unusual here is xanthan gum. This harmless addition is used in cooking as a thickener or stabilizer.

In this case, it will keep your drink from splitting as it sits.

Since youll be blending this with ice, you can use freshly brewed coffee .

Though, I prefer to use the cold brew since it has a nicer overall taste.

If you want to ensure your frappuccino isnt watered down, try making coffee ice cubes.

Vietnamese coffee is a blend of freshly brewed coffee and condensed milk. Its thick, sweet, and wonderfully creamy.

But its not as easy as pouring condensed milk into your coffee cup!

Instead, theres a bit of theatre to go along with it, and I highly recommend you buy a Vietnamese coffee filter set online.

With this filter set, you add the condensed milk to the bottom of the cup and place the little container on top.

Can You Store Leftover Iced Coffee In The Fridge

Yes and no. This really depends on how much of a coffee snob you are to be honest. If you’re used to a fresh brew, storing any leftovers in the fridge may not be a good idea. Cold brew typically lasts 2-3 days in the fridge if you’ve covered it properly the flavours will last a bit longer because it’s brewed cold.

However, drip coffee that has been chilled has a shorter shelf life before the robust coffee flavour starts to disappear and become stale. I wouldn’t recommend keeping it for more than 24 hours. However, there will be nothing inherently wrong with the coffee other than the taste so feel free to go ahead and judge by your taste buds.
